Mobile is the driving force in our modern world but what is the correct mobile solution? Native APP? Web APP? Hybrid APP? Do you do "Responsive Design" or "Adaptive Design" and why? Do you know the difference? In our industry, there is always a rush to use trends, but the latest trend may not be the proper solution to the need. The only way to be sure is to wireframe >prototype>test, much as we do a traditional web design project. But with mobile, there are the additional parameters of location the device is used -indoors or out? Is the location audio sensitive or not, will the function disturb people or the event around it? A list of questions like this must be answered -before the first line of code is ever written.
As a UX Designer for Mobile, you must understand the traditional UX concepts like interaction , user stories, and goals but you have added issues of understanding the visual components how big interaction objects need to be, why you use one control over another.
